Crazy Love (John 13:3-6, Matthew 27:24-31, John 13:7, John 18:3, John 13:1)
Pastor Fran Leeman, September 13, 2009Part of the The Five Things and The Failure of Modern Christianity series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
When Jesus suffered and gave himself, he did it for each one of you, because he sees you, because he has Crazy Love for you. And he knows that everybody matters, and that everybody needs Crazy Love. And he says to us, “If any of you want to be my disciple, you have to deny yourself, take up your Cross, and follow me.” And if we get it, if we get what He’s up to in this world, what we’ll say is, “Where do I sign up?”

John 13:3-6
3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, 4 rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. 5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” (ESV)
Matthew 27:24-31
24 So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man's blood; see to it yourselves.” 25 And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” 26 Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor's headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. 28 And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30 And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. 31 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him. (ESV)
John 13:7
7 Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” (ESV)
John 18:3
3 So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons. (ESV)
John 13:1
13:1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. (ESV)
