Love on the East Side
Volunteers from LifeSpring operate a twice-monthly food pantry in the Hispanic Collins Street neighborhood on Joliet’s east side. We have given away almost a million pounds of food in the last two years. We also teach English classes to recent immigrants. All this came about because Pastor Fran got lost while driving on the east side late one night in 2005, and God just wouldn’t let him forget about that neighborhood. He and Linda eventually became friends with Pastor Manuel Baez and his wife Arlyn. They pastor Iglesia Bethania (Bethany Church) in the Collins neighborhood. We hope that the things we are doing over there now are just the beginning, because it is a struggling neighborhood with so many needs among both children and adults.
Big Brothers Big Sisters
At LifeSpring we challenge people to seriously consider becoming a “big” for a young boy or girl in the Plainfield/Joliet area. Within a ten minute drive of where our church meets, there are currently 50 boys waiting for a good man to spend some time with them.
